DIGITAL WOODWORKING

The DW group’s primary purpose is to share our knowledge and skills in computer-controlled, woodworking-related areas. We use CNC routers, laser engravers/cutters, and 3d printers. You do not need any equipment to join the group; all are welcome. We also offer services to anyone in the guild: all you need to do is ask one of us. Please see the forum post “Digital services for the Guild”. We do a lot of different things, including: Wood inlay, Epoxy inlay, V-carving, Contour maps, Lasers, Work-holding, and 3D relief carving. We also hold classes on how to use the software. Steve Smith leads the group; Gene Kirkpatrick teaches Vectric classes.

TOOL MAKING

The tool making sub-group consists of Guild members interested in crafting hand tools for shop use. Meetings are randomly arranged at a member’s shop where techniques in crafting a particular tool are discussed. Often participants will construct the same tool but with variations in design they create. Members craft the tool at their home shop. No tools are made during the sub-group meeting location. Result is having the satisfaction to use a tool self-crafted. Wes Sunderland heads this group. Future meetings will be noted below this description.

BIG (Beginner & Intermediate Group)

Our Beginner and Intermediate Group (BIG) focuses on interesting woodworking topics appealing to beginners, as well as those of us with more experience. Topics have included shop setup, sharpening planes and chisels, bandsaw setup and operation, router techniques, various joinery techniques, and epoxy resins. Our topics continue to expand based on members interest and their burgeoning skills. Meetings are randomly arranged at a member’s shop appropriate for the skill building working session. Barbara White and Susan Chandler head this group.
